As a future elementary art teacher my plan is to motivate my students to be creative and to open their minds to many things they have never opened to before. This can only happen if I am an inspiring teacher and can get them out of their seats and their hands moving. They can’t be inspired if they aren’t in the right environment with the right supplies and support around them. I plan to be a great supporter of my students and to have them adventure further then they would in their day to day classes. I, being the art teacher, only have a short amount of time with my students weekly but I want to make that time the best part of their week. I want to push my students to do things above them so they can improve for the future. Art is a mixture of many other subjects like mathematics and biology, maybe even chemistry. I would like to give my classroom experience with every field of art including sculpture, printmaking, painting, etc. It’s great to give your children a sample of each medium of art to expand their horizon. During my time with my students I plan to set a goal to teach them as much about art history or a specific educational topic relating to the lesson plan that day. I will always give my students enough time to work on projects and to help them through each step of this class. As the teacher I am supposed to be seen as a role model to these children and so I like to put an effort into trying to get my students individual attention and to know them on a personal level. Being on a personal level creates a connection between you and the student and causes the student to feel important to the classroom and to me; Getting to know the students is my number one priority. To further the development in my career at teaching art I plan to gain experience through my years of teaching. Also I would like to change my lesson plans every year so that I can always practice different projects and I can expand my horizon as well as the students. I have noticed from my experience with art teachers that they do a lot of the same projects every year and this can get boring and bland. We as teachers need to change things up and learn new things and new lessons and not just spit out things we know already and or just keep the students in a box. I want to open that box and have them have the options to do a lot of what they want and to give them the choice to do other things outside of their usual classes. Development of my students is another very important thing to me as a teacher. Just because these students are young and at an elementary school, doesn’t mean I can’t give them things that are challenging. These students want to learn and deserve to learn. I have noticed with other teacher that they just give these students a project and don’t put a lot of education into it which isn’t a great choice. Teaching art isn’t always easy and being in a classroom is a constant learning experience for me and my students.
